Office LED Lighting Options
Lighting is an element of office design and infrastructure that plays a significant part in ensuring employee wellbeing and productivity. When areas are too bright, poorly lit or prone to flickering lights, steps should be taken to make improvements. Office LED Lighting addresses all of these issues.
The latest Office LED Lighting is available as tubes, panel lights, downlights, spotlights and more, so there is an option for every area within an officer. Whether it’s the main work areas, meeting rooms, reception areas, lobbies, corridors or stairwells, the switch to LED Lighting in offices makes sense for financial reasons and employee comfort.
Improving The Working Environment
Today’s LED Lighting products carry a number of performance advantages. They switch on and off almost instantly and integrate very well with lighting controls such as occupancy sensors and timers. Perhaps more importantly, replacing fluorescent lighting does away with the well-known problem of flickering lights leading to visual discomfort, stress and headaches.
LED Lighting can also be fitted with excellent dimming capability, allowing employees to accurately adjust the light in specific areas to people’s preferences. A study by City University London’s Centre for Performance at Work found that: “Worker controlled lighting and lighting solutions tailored to the individual needs of workers have considerable potential for enhancing employees’ work satisfaction and enhancing retention.”

When Can You Expect A Payback On Your Investment?
After installing new Office LED Lighting you could see a return on your investment within one to three years. This is a result of lower energy consumption and bulbs having a longer life than legacy technologies. The availability of interest-free funding for LED Lighting investment means there could be no capital or deposit required.

LED Factory Lighting
Factories are places where excellent lighting is simply a must. Productivity and indeed product quality can degrade when employees are working with lighting levels below what’s required. Employee wellbeing and safety also potentially suffer when lighting is substandard.
So what are some of the specific issues that we typically find in factories when assessing their existing lighting systems? And what benefits can an investment in LED Factory Lighting achieve?
Problems With Existing Factory Lighting
When the Circle Electricians team carries out our lighting audits, we typically encounter a number of issues including the following:
Poor lighting levels. Traditional light bulbs and fittings degrade over time and the result can be lighting below required levels. We often find that a number of light fittings are not working at all, further depleting lighting levels.
Employee wellbeing issues. Everyone has at some point been in an environment where one or more fluorescent tubes are flickering away. Failures like this create an unpleasant environment and can lead to eye strain and even migraines.
High energy costs. Fluorescent and incandescent lighting consumes significantly more energy that LED Lighting. This impacts straight onto the bottom line and has a negative effect on a company’s carbon emissions performance.
High maintenance demands. Many older lighting systems are prone to bulb failure. This creates a cost in itself, but the time and human resources involved in constantly replacing blown bulbs, often involving working at height, is just as unwelcome.
Switching To LED Lighting
LED lighting addresses all of the above issues. Performance and efficiency levels increase, while maintenance time and costs are reduced. There have also been many reports of employee morale improving once a better-lit environment has been created.
For a full assessment of the potential for saving energy and improving conditions in your factory, please ask for our free lighting audit. We will visit you on site to compare your existing lighting with an LED system, producing a comprehensive report so you can make an informed decision about whether to invest in LED Lighting.
Industrial High Bay LED Lighting: Reducing Cost
Owners and managers of factories will know that maintaining suitable lighting is a significant overhead. This is why we are often asked whether installing Industrial High Bay LED Lighting really does lead to measurable cost savings.
In this blog, we’d like to summarise the three main sources of cost from traditional lighting – and the ways that retrofitting LED Lighting in high bay situations can deliver a tangible return on your investment.
High Bay lights are defined as those installed to illuminate areas typically with ceilings 20 feet (6 metres) to 45 feet (14 metres). High ceilings mean lighting here has lots of space to fill, so powerful lights are usually required. Systems based around incandescent or fluorescent technologies will generate significant energy costs for a business.
Greater energy efficiency can be achieved with the retrofit of LED High Bay Lights into commercial, industrial, warehouse or retail environments. The same is true for recreational spaces, such as leisure centres, sports arenas and large concert halls. LED Lighting for all these spaces provides powerful, even illumination across the working or leisure area.

Performance Requirements Of High Bay Lighting
High Bay Lights should of course ensure that the location is brightly lit, in a uniform way across the whole area. However, it is worth considering that there are two main styles of LED High Bay Lighting that feature in installations:
- Lights with reflectors that direct the light vertically onto floor areas.
- More of a diffused effect, which can be appropriate in areas such as shelving where employees need excellent illumination when picking products or components.
In both cases, correctly specified and installed LED Lighting can improve safety and productivity, especially where the existing lighting infrastructure is old or prone to breakdowns. Known for delivering brighter and more consistent lighting effects, LED Lighting is fast becoming the choice in high bay applications.
How Can LED Lighting Return On Its Investment?
Problem 1: High energy costs. The energy rating of fluorescent and incandescent bulbs is rapidly being seen as an unacceptable overhead by industrial users.
SOLUTION: Lower energy bills with LED Lighting. LED lighting typically uses up to 80 percent less electricity than fluorescent/incandescent lighting.
Problem 2: poor lifespan of existing bulbs. Fluorescent and incandescent bulbs offer disappointing lifespans. Not only that, but fluorescent lamps start to degrade in performance over time, so towards the end of their life they will grow dimmer and lose much of their original colour.
SOLUTION: longer lasting LED bulbs. LED bulbs can last up to 20 times longer than fluorescent and incandescent lighting. Lifespans of 50,000 hours or more are typical.
Problem 3: maintenance time when replacing bulbs. With high bay lighting being located at heights of 20 feet or above, there is a considerable risk of serious injury should an employee have a fall while replacing a bulb. Control measures therefore need to be put in place each time a bulb is replaced, and these take time and therefore involve cost. The use of bulky specialist equipment such as cherry pickers can also disrupt production.
SOLUTION: much fewer bulb replacements. As we have seen, LED bulbs last much longer than traditional technologies, so the maintenance of them is drastically reduced. Busy maintenance staff will find the days of frequently bringing out ladders, cherry pickers and other equipment to replace bulbs are over.
Retrofit LED Lighting
Industrial, commercial and retail premises are increasingly choosing Retrofit LED Lighting as a way to improve energy efficiency, lighting performance and maintenance requirements. As LED Lighting technology has advanced, so too have the opportunities to make significant improvements across all these areas.
Due to the financial savings generated by LED Lighting, this is an example of where an investment in improving a building’s infrastructure actually pays for itself and moves into profit.
The Drivers For Retrofit LED Lighting
Naturally a key driver for most businesses is the realisation of financial savings. LED Lighting can deliver energy savings of 50 percent or more. Bulbs need to be replaced much less often than with older technologies. Add these benefits together and it is often possible to achieve a 100% return on the retrofit investment within one to three years; from that point on, tangible bottom line savings can be enjoyed year-on-year.
An Opportunity To Improve Conditions For Employees
Deciding to install Retrofit LED Lighting also creates a superb opportunity to make improvements to lighting conditions in the workplace. If employees have complained about too little or too much light, the retrofit installation can address their concerns.
The health and safety of employees is paramount. Issues such as eyestrain due to poor light, or headaches and general discomfort as a result of glare or flickering fluorescent lighting can be resolved through LED Lighting. Along the same lines, lighting conditions can be improved to produce a better customer experience in a retail setting where necessary.
